Urgent Care

When Dental Pain Can't Wait

A dental emergency rarely happens at a convenient time, which is why we hold same-day appointment slots at all three of our offices specifically for urgent cases. Whether you're dealing with a sudden, severe toothache, a tooth that's been knocked out or badly chipped, a filling or crown that's come loose, or facial swelling that could signal an infection, our team is equipped to see you quickly and get you out of pain.

Tooth pain is most often a sign of decay, infection, or nerve inflammation that gets worse without treatment, so we don't recommend waiting it out. A knocked-out or fractured tooth is a true time-sensitive emergency — the sooner we see you, the better the odds of saving the natural tooth. And a lost filling or crown leaves the tooth underneath exposed and vulnerable, which can quickly turn a small problem into a much bigger one.

When you call our emergency line, we'll ask a few quick questions to understand the severity of your situation and get you into the soonest available appointment — often the same day. Every emergency visit starts with a focused exam and digital x-rays so we can diagnose the problem accurately, followed by treatment aimed first at relieving your pain and second at fixing the underlying issue, whether that means a root canal, extraction, repair, or restoration.

If your emergency happens outside normal business hours, call anyway — our emergency line is monitored for true urgent situations, and we'll help you figure out the right next step, even if that means guidance on managing pain and swelling until we can see you first thing.

Questions & Answers

Emergency Dental FAQ

What counts as a dental emergency?

Severe or persistent tooth pain, a knocked-out or badly chipped tooth, a lost filling or crown that's causing pain or sensitivity, facial or gum swelling, and signs of infection (fever, throbbing pain, a pimple-like bump on the gums) all count as dental emergencies. If you're unsure, call us — we'd rather see you and confirm it's not urgent than have you wait in pain.

What should I do if my tooth gets knocked out?

Pick the tooth up by the crown (the chewing surface), not the root, and rinse it gently with water if it's dirty — don't scrub it. Try to place it back in the socket if possible; if not, keep it moist in a cup of milk or your own saliva. Call us immediately and get to our office within 30-60 minutes for the best chance of saving the tooth.

Do you offer emergency appointments the same day?

Yes. All three of our offices — Riverside, Temecula, and Redlands — hold same-day emergency slots. Call our emergency line as early in the day as you can, and our team will get you seen as quickly as possible, often within a few hours.

What if it happens after hours or I don't have insurance?

Our emergency line is monitored beyond normal office hours for true emergencies, so call even if it's evening or a weekend. We treat patients with and without insurance, and our team can walk you through payment options, including CareCredit and LendingClub financing, so cost doesn't stand between you and urgent care.

How much does emergency dental care cost?

Cost depends on what's causing the emergency and what treatment you need, which is why we start every visit with an exam and x-rays before recommending a plan. We'll always explain costs clearly before treatment, and our team can check your insurance benefits or set up a payment plan the same day.
